After a heavy shower before kick off the sun had came out to create perfect conditions for what was expected to be a great game of rugby. After a false start the game began with multiple handling errors from both teams allowing the forwards to battle it out in the set pieces. With the extra weight in the Beckenham pack it looked like it could be a tough day for the Swans, however we held firm in the scrums. The two sides traded posesion of the ball, however much to the annoyance of coach George's the Swans were forced to play most of their rugby in their own half. As the half went on the hosts started to turn the screw, but an organised defence from the Swans prevented the home team from making the most of their posesion and territory. Eventually, after a well worked routine from a scrum Beckenham managed to cross the white line for the first try of the game. The Swans did their best to hit straight back with bruising runs from the forwards and breaks from Ali and Dan Maloney, but some last ditch defending kept the home teams try line untouched. With the last play of the half called the hosts secured a line out well into the Swans half. A well worked line out routine allowed the ball to quickly move through the backs to score there second try of the match.
After a rallying team talk at half time from captain Rhys and coach George aswell as dark clouds rolling in above the Swans felt that the fightback could be on. This hope was quickly dented by the hosts scoring the first play of the half as the Swans were slow to get back into the rhythm of the match, however another poor conversion attempt left the Swans knowing they were still in the game. As the heavens opened the game broke up with both teams making breaks. The Swans seemed to prefer the change in conditions with both the forwards and backs making penetrating runs pushing into the opposition's half, with some quick offloads bursting over for their first try of their match. As the rain moved on and the sun came back out the hosts turned the screw again and with a couple of trys taking the match away from the Swans. As the game wound to a close the ref seemed to be more focussed on a double rainbow than the match and the Swans kicker Nathan seemed to take offence at the home team fans booting the ball right at their heads. But the Swans were not done yet with a break down the pitch lead by Ben Lockwood which almost lead to try for the backs. With a few phases through the forwards and the time in the red Swans crossed over for a second try leaving the final score 29-14 to the home team. Not the result we wanted but a very good performance from the Boys showing we can give any team in this league a battle. With the game over the boys head to the clubhouse for beers and a much anticipated lasagne (rumor has it this is why the Swans had such a good turnout).
MOTM - Cobra Kai, great tackles in stopping some of the hosts penetrating teams and bouncing back strongly after a tough few games.
DOTD - Jake Moore, the culprit of several of the handling errors including 2 knock one in a minute. However, given the fight shown by the team it seemed harsh to give to anyone.
With 2 games to go the Swans will look to build on this result and end the season on a high.
