Swanley Men 10 - 17 Southwark XV
A very friendly friendly.
Firstly, the whole of Swanley RFC would like to thank Southwark for coming to the nest last minute so we could have a fixture for our Presidents Day.
After Beckenham blew us out at 1330 on Friday after confirming earlier in the week, the fixtures gang scrambled around and managed to secure the fixture, even though Southwark had booked and paid for their pitch they were willing to help us host our great community day.
The game started quickly and played out as expected. Once again, the Swans were massive in the pack, bullying the set pieces and collisions securing the first score.
The lancers retaliated by testing the Swans' pace and agility, running us raged around the edges.
This resulted in 2 quick fire trys for the lancers
The second half saw a very even contest, with both sides getting 1 more try each. Some questionable decisions on both sides had the flow of the game become unpredictable and the penalty count rise.
The pace of the game set by the lancers was wearing down the Swans, leaving them a bit disoriented and not following the game plan. But the men in green and white persevered and nearly drew the game in the last play.
Overall, a strong performance for the Swans showed improvement and growth since their precious encounter back in October.
The game was played in really good spirits, and it was great to see the Southwark boys stick around for plenty of food and drink and joining in with our post-match presentation and auction.
Congratulations on the win, lads, and good luck in your counties 2 campaign next season.
