Beckenham 4s 26 - 35 Swanley Men
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Huge result on the road for the men in green and white, another first for the club, securing a victory at Balmoral Avenue.
Firstly, we would like to say fair play to @beckenhamrfc for fielding a fair side today. With their other 3 teams not playing, they could've easily dropped players on us and given us an absolute spanking, but they played their true team, and we all had an enjoyable game. Massive respect and a true show of standards in the grassroots rugby community.
The Swans started well with a dominant forward performance and struck first with a try from a well worked driving maul.
Beckenham quickly retorted with some fantastic back line movement, splitting the park wide open for a good try.
This dictated the first half, and on the 40, the score line was 19-14 to the home side.
A half-time rant from our mouthy 8 put a fire under the lads, and the next half saw a complete change in energy.
The backs really profiled their opposite numbers and suffocated them to remove their strengths and proceed to exploit their weaknesses.
This led to 3 unanswered trys.
With the game in the last play the swans were pushing the try line but with a real hankering to get DOTD, openside Ali decided to gift their centre the ball and a wide open space to run the length of the pitch to dot down for a consolation score.
All in all, it was a fantastic afternoon, great hosts, and a win to top it off.
This currently leaves the swans top of the league with the final game in 2 weeks against Old A's essentially deciding who will win the league.
